A young couple has been praised for an act of goodwill after spotting a man had dropped money following a visit to a bank machine.
Paul Lyon, from St Helens in Merseyside, was paid a visit by the pair after he visited his local shops on Sunday afternoon. After getting cash out he returned home, but just moments later he received a knock on the door. They asked him if he had dropped money when visiting the cash machine as they had found £180 lying on the street.
Paul told the Liverpool Echo: "I'd gone to the shop to get some stuff to make breakfast and decided to get some money out. As I got home, within 30 seconds I heard the doorbell so answered it and there was a young couple standing there.
"They asked me if I'd dropped any money and I didn't know at the time but when I checked, I was missing the money. I thanked them and tried to give them some as a thank you but they wouldn't accept anything.
"I checked the video doorbell back to see where I'd dropped the money, and the video before showed the couple walking down the road just behind me and they followed me behind to tell me I'd dropped the money.
"They quite easily could have walked off with the money and I would never have realised. I put a post on Facebook and it got a lot of attention. Some family members have messaged me to say they are so proud and they are only 17. I wasn't expecting it. I could tell by their personalities that they would've been gutted had that happened to them, both as honest as each other."
