Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has described Cristiano Ronaldo as a “top professional” after the superstar added another personal accolade to his huge haul.
The 36-year-old was bestowed a special achievement award at The Best FIFA ceremony on Monday for breaking the international men’s goalscoring record.
His double for Portugal against the Republic of Ireland in September’s World Cup qualifier saw him surpass Ali Daei’s Iran record of 109 goals and has since increased his tally to 115.
Ronaldo was also named in the FIFPRO Men’s World XI for 2021 alongside Manchester City 's Ruben Dias and Kevin de Bruyne.
Speaking ahead of United ’s game with Brentford on Wednesday via the club’s official website , manager Rangnick sang the praises of his player, describing him in the highest regard.
When asked about the secret behind Ronaldo’s success, he answered: “Well in the end, you’ll have to ask him what his secret is!
“As far as I can tell, he’s always been a top professional, looking after himself. All the important things that need to be done to still play on this kind of level.
“Your nutrition, sleep: whatever he does, if you look at his body he’s extremely fit and he makes sure that he does all the important things to keep this level as long as possible.”
Ronaldo’s latest award comes after he was honoured for his international record at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai in December.
The attacker is set to return to the United squad for the first time since January 3 when the Red Devils travel to the Bees on Wednesday.
He’s netted 14 times in 21 games since returning to Old Trafford, keeping him as the club’s top goalscorer so far this season.
