Nick Montgomery is adamant Ross County’s last-gasp leveller came from a blunder by officials.
The Hibs manager was baffled why Yan Dhanda’s equaliser stood after added time had expired and claims County were wrongly given a throw-in in the lead-up to the goal. The Edinburgh club had turned the game on its head after Josh Sims’ first-half opener with goals from Myziane Maolida and Adam Le Fondre looked like slashing the gap on St Mirren in the European position in the table.
Montgomery, looking shell-shocked after the loss of two valuable points, said: “We just lost two points we shouldn’t have. The first half was really scrappy, so it was really difficult conditions and we conceded a sloppy goal. We dominated the second half and got back into the game and should have won it.
“Seven minutes goes up on the board, and I’m not sure how, so everyone was a little bit shocked. After the seven minutes had gone we were still playing and a Ross County defender heads it out for our throw in.
“Everyone can see that, and their defender starts heading backwards – but somehow they pick up another ball 10 yards down the pitch, throw it back in and we concede. We have to pick out several moments for not defending that but we lose two points and it’s really frustrating.”
County boss Don Cowie hailed his side’s character for getting the point. He said: “It backs up what I already know about the character of the group. It looked like the game had got away from us but you have to keep going. That point could be invaluable come the end of the season.”
