Dogs home staff are desperately searching for homes for two XL bully dogs. Six-year-old Roxy and three-year-old Roy are the last two XL Bullies at the Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home.
From the 31st December, it will become illegal to breed, giveaway or sell the breed and, under the new rule, owners will also not be allowed to let them stray or have an XL Bully in public without a lead or muzzle.
The rules come after complaints from the public following a series of high profile dog attacks in the country with XL Bully dogs being involved at a disproportionate amount. Dogs home representative Anthony Bilson, 48, says the tight deadline for the new rule change has made things difficult for staff trying to rehouse dogs like Roxy and Roy.

Speaking about the tight deadline and perception of XL Bullies since the reported attacks, Anthony told the MEN: “We are running against time, but we still have a week to go until the 31st and we’re trying to do everything to find Roy and Roxy a home because every little helps, what happens between now and then could change.
“We are all upset, and we’re all worried about these dogs as you would if you worked as a care giver. It’s upsetting to see some of these dogs that are really nice and sweet end up as strays.
“We think that all of them are being tarred with the same brush and it’s upsetting.”
Roy and Roxy are the last remaining XL Bully dogs under the care of the Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home after a handful were rehoused earlier this month.
