Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Fujishima ‘Julie’ Keiko has quit as president of Johnny and Associates, the Japanese talent agency that is embroiled in a poisonous child sex abuse scandal. The alleged abuses were committed over several decades by company founder the late Johnny Kitagawa, Fujishima’s uncle, two external reports have found. Some of the boys were still of elementary school age when they were allegedly abused. Fujishima will be replaced as president by actor Higashiyama Noriyuki, a long-term employee of the powerhouse agency and host of the TV Asahi show “Sunday LIVE!!” The company held a press conference on Thursday to announce the leadership change and take press questions over its responses and remedies to the scandal. During the event, both Higashiyama and Fujishima acknowledged that Kitagawa committed acts of sexual abuse against young agency talents prior to his death at age 87 in 2019.

Ncuti Gatwa says ‘Sex Education’ role healed “a lot of internalised hate”

Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa has spoken about how his role in the show “undid a lot of the internalised hate [he] had”.The Rwandan-Scottish actor, who plays gay teenager Eric Effiong in the coming-of-age Netflix series, reflected on how the character had impacted his life during a recent interview with Elle.“I’ve experienced racism my whole life, and while I always believed in myself, always knew [racists] were stupid and uneducated, I guess it did misinform my view of how the world works,” he continued.“It makes you think everyone has that opinion and you’ll constantly have to fight through life – then you learn that you don’t: you can find a tribe, you can find your people.”Gatwa also thanked Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn for “giving nuance” to his “gay, Black character and gifting him to the world”.The actor went on to describe Eric as “so fierce and unashamed”, adding: “It was healing for me, and great for people to see themselves represented. It taught me the importance of representation: it’s so powerful and necessary.”Over the summer, Gatwa revealed that producers on Sex Education once spoke to him about ad-libbing lines of dialogue, saying they didn’t feel “like white people [would] understand” them.“And I was like, ‘It’s not for white people to understand’,” he said. Sex Education‘s fourth and final season is due to arrive on Netflix on September 21 – check out the official trailer here.Nunn explained the decision to bring the hit comedy-drama to an end in a letter to fans in July.“We wanted to make a show that would answer some of the questions we all used to have about love, sex, friendship, and our bodies,” she wrote.

How Akiva Goldsman Grounded ‘The Crowded Room’ In His Own Experience As A Survivor Of Childhood Sexual Abuse

EXCLUSIVE: Akiva Goldsman won an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind, his screenplay detoured from Sylvia Nasar’s biography to the story of her genius mathematician husband John Nash. Depicted deciphering Soviet-planted hidden media messages for the Defense Department, the duty turned out to be a symptom of schizophrenia. That was a mild foray into the human mind compared to The Crowded Room, the 10-part Apple TV+ series Goldsman created and was showrunner on. Tom Holland stars as a young man whose erratic behavior was the result of a false reality triggered by a mind that fractured into multiple alter egos. Inspired by the Daniel Keyes book The Minds of Billy Milligan, Goldsman changed facts to create a fictionalized story that would be hard to believe had it not happened. What Goldsman hasn’t discussed until now is how much of the narrative was informed by his own memories of being molested as a child by a family friend, through his formative childhood and teenage years. There is truth among fiction that has sparked strong reactions from fellow trauma sufferers. Buckle up.
