Queen Elizabeth's closest friend says Meghan Markle had unrealistic expectations of royal life

The late Queen's maid of honour Lady Glenconner has said that Meghan Markle expected life in the Royal Family to be different to how it was following the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes' shock exit from the Firm back in 2020.
Lady Glenconner, was one of the former monarch's childhood friends and took one the role of one of her six maids of honour at Queen Elizabeth's 1953 Coronation, the Mirror reports.
The 91-year-old who also acted as a lady-in-waiting for Her Majesty's sister, Princess Margaret said that Meghan thought she would be "riding around in a golden coach" after her marriage to Prince Harry and did not realise the extent of what was expected of her as a senior royal.
Lady Glenconner, whose birth name is Anne Veronica Tennant, said on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast: "I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really.
"I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know. Riding around in a golden coach and everything like that
"And actually, being a member of the royal family - a lot of it is extremely boring."
She also confessed that she and the people of America "feel sorry" for Harry, having claimed to have shared the opinion with American politician John Kerry, 79, who she sat next to at the King's Coronation.
The socialite said she asked him: 'What do you think in America about Harry and Meghan?' and he replied: "We all feel very, very sorry for Harry. I think I can just leave it at that."
The news comes after an unearthed blog post of Meghan's proved that the duchess had been thinking of moving to the UK many years before she married the duke.
Before the 42-year-old met her now-husband, she was an actress in the hit legal series Suits and also ran
