Queen 'danced around' after hearing granddaughter Zara won silver Olympic medal

A former protection officer of The Queen has revealed how Her Majesty celebrated when she discovered her granddaughter Zara Tindall had won an Olympic medal after being too nervous to watch the event live. Former royal protection officer Richard Griffin recalled his time with Queen Elizabeth II on 13 September on Sky News. He confirmed The Queen's adoration for horse riding and said that the Queen had been too anxious to watch Zara's competing run at the 2012 Olympic Games.
According to Griffin, the Queen decided to venture out on a picnic to distract herself but inevitably asked him to check how her granddaughter had done. When Her Majesty found out that Princess Anne's daughter had bagged a silver medal the Queen "danced around in circles". Zara won the silver medal as part of the team event during the competition, the single Olympic title of her career.
Speaking to Sky, Griffin said: "I remember once when I was up at Balmoral with her [the Queen] and Zara was competing in the Olympic Games and looked like she was going to win a medal. "And I thought I would be flying down to Greenwich to watch her get on, but the Queen said to me 'I'm just so nervous, I can't face up to it. Let's just go out for a picnic,'" he added.The former protection officer continued: "So we drove up to one of the mountainsides, one of the cabins and we had a little private picnic just the two of us.
" However, the late Monarch couldn't resist finding out how Zara had got on and eventually asked Griffin to find out. "So I radioed them, found out she's won the silver medal and I remember the Queen jut grabbed me and we were dancing around in circles on this hill in Scotland," Griffin said, giggling.
