A prison officer has been moved off a wing at Salford's troubled Forest Bank prison after colleagues complained of an alleged 'inappropriate relationship' with a jailed former cop, according to a source inside the jail.

A Greater Manchester jail has been heavily criticised by the prisons watchdog after officers took 23 minutes to respond to an inmate who later died of a cardiac arrest. Convicted burglar Edmund Carley was serving a 19 month sentence at HMP Hindley in Wigan when he complained of breathing difficulties on the night of May 1, 2018.
But there was an 'unacceptable' and 'inordinate' delay in officers responding. The 39-year-old, who had a history of drug use and mental health problems, first pressed his bell at 10.26pm.
But it wasn't until 10.49pm, that officers eventually entered his cell, followed shortly after by a nurse. They found Mr Carley, who had been smoking spice, face down on the floor.

CPR was carried out and an ambulance was called, but there was a further delay in paramedics arriving as 'no advance provision' was made to unlock the prison gates.
Mr Carley was confirmed dead at 11.50pm. In a report into the death Sue McAllister from watchdog the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman criticised the 'seemingly relaxed approach' to attending to Mr Carley.
Ms McAllister also raised concerns about the 'failure to fully comply with the procedures for handling medical emergencies'. She wrote: "This led to an unacceptable delay in starting resuscitation, calling an ambulance and escorting the paramedics to Mr Carley's cell. Staff must be reminded of their responsibilities and the need for urgency when dealing with potentially life-threatening incidents."
