Prince William has an unexpected love of nineties and noughties club music, a Radio 1 DJ legend has revealed.The Duke of Cambridge and Princess Anne were in charge of bestowing the latest Royal honours at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, in the first Investiture to be held at the palace in two years. One of the recipients was Radio 1 legend Simon Mayo, who revealed a very unusual conversation he had with Prince William as he received his MBE. While William, 39, did the pinning, he spoke with Simon about how he loved club music such as 90s club anthem, Insomnia by Faithless.

“I suggested that he was clearly a bit of a clubber….” He added in a follow-up tweet: “He said maybe a secret clubber. “I plugged Drivetime on GHR (Greatest Hits Radio) obviously, suggested he was just the right age to be joining us….” Groovejet was a disco hit for Spiller, featuring the vocals of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, released back in 2000, while Insomnia continues to be a popular hit on dancefloors to this day. Simon, 63, left the BBC in April 2022 after 40 years and now presents a drivetime show on Greatest Hits Radio.
He received his MBE for services to broadcasting, and has described the day as "a thrill" and an "amazing experience", according to The Times. However, he also spoke of imposter syndrome before receiving the award, wondering if he deserved the MBE.
