More police will be patrolling the area around a luxury Salford block of flats which residents say is ‘really, really high for crime’.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News yesterday , neighbours say they have decided to leave the Local Crescent apartments, on Hulme Street, due to fears over crime.

They have also complained over parking issues and frequent lift breakdowns. Developers Salboy have told the MEN that the majority of tenants are ‘very happy’ to be living there.

Millions of Brits struggling with the cost-of-living crisis have been trading in their old, unused items in a bid to make some extra cash – to the tune of over £220 in the last year.A poll of 2,000 adults revealed a quarter are now selling unwanted belongings to make their money go further – with mobile phones (39%), cars (31%), and clothes (22%) topping the list.And many are new to trading, with one in five having sold something in the last six months, and nearly a third of these (31%) doing so for the first time.Other popular items that are being traded in include laptops (20%), CDs (19%), tablets (18%), and games consoles (15%).The research, commissioned by Vodafone to launch their new trade-in offer for smartphones, found this has contributed to a 26% rise in the number of people trading in items compared to the previous six months (9.7 million vs 7.7million) – and a 72% rise since last year (9.7m vs 5.6m).Max Taylor, consumer director for Vodafone, said: “People across the UK are understandably extremely value-conscious right now, but we know many still want to get their hands on the latest tech.“Getting better value for your current smartphone means that you’ll be able to get the latest handset at a more affordable price, saving you money at a time when it’s really needed.”The study also found that, while financial benefits are the biggest driver for those trading in for the first time (57%), other motivations include wanting to help the environment (36%) and decluttering (32%).The average adult reckons they’ve made £221.50 this year from selling various goods, estimating their current unused items are worth an average of £287.And while trade-ins top the list of what people plan to do with their old mobiles (36%),
