A Ford Transit van was pursued through the streets of Oldham by Greater Manchester Police officers in the early hours of this morning (August 9) as the driver allegedly attempted to flee.
Officers from Tactical Pursuit and Containment (TPAC) patrols say they followed the vehicle before it was brought to a halt by the deployment of a stinger device. It was then surrounded by police vehicles before the driver is said to have given himself up.
The motorist was arrested on suspicion of offences including driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, failing to prove a sample and failing to stop. He was taken into custody and the vehicle seized.

Greater Manchester Police said in a tweet: "This Ford Transit van was pursued around #Oldham a short while ago. The van was stung and surrounded by our #TPAC patrols as the driver gave up. #Arrested for Disqualified Driving, Dangerous Driving, fail to provide a sample and Failing to Stop. Vehicle #seized."
Stingers - properly known as a hollow spike tire deflation device - work by puncturing one or more tyres of an oncoming vehicle when thrown into its path by an officer from the side of the road. They are then quickly retracted before a following police car passes by.
