He only has to ask his predecessor Michael Beale or even Giovanni van Bronckhorst before that. I understand why Clement has come in and said that. He is trying to take some of the pressure off his squad as they find themselves seven points behind in the title race.
First and foremost he has to sort out the team he has inherited. He will need a fair bit of luck with that if some of the performances from earlier in the season are anything to go by. Clement is hugely experienced and from his track record it looks like he knows how to win. His success at Genk and Club Brugge proves that and was probably the reason why it edged him in front of Kevin Muscat.
That know-how will be important because it is not really in the DNA of a lot of his squad. Clement has what it takes but does his squad? That is what he has to learn and quickly. Rangers spent a lot of money in the summer backing Beale. They’ve not really had a return yet.
The one successful piece of recruitment has been keeper Jack Butland and he was linked with Birmingham City at the weekend. If Clement is serious then he needs to keep hold of his better players unless an offer comes in that he can’t refuse as it allows him to perform major surgery on his squad.
