Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Law & Order: SVU) is one gripping drama.

Canada’s Citytv has ordered Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, a local adaptation of the venerable Law & Order brand. The 10-episode series is slated to begin production this fall in Toronto for a spring 2024 premiere.

“Law & Order” is branching out to Canadian investigations, specifically Toronto-based.

Amber Dowling The “Law & Order” universe is heading up north. Citytv has ordered the series “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” Rogers Media announced on Monday. The pickup was revealed a day before Rogers Media’s virtual upfront presentation on June 6. The Toronto iteration hails from Vancouver-based Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Citytv. The first season is planned as ten hour-long episodes, set to premiere in Spring 2024. The show is based on the “Law & Order” franchise created by Dick Wolf for Universal Television, which will distribute the series internationally. But in this case, “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” also takes its cue from “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” the third series in Wolf’s “L&O” franchise. The original “Criminal Intent,” created and produced by Wolf and René Balcer, ran for 10 seasons between 2001 and 2011 (first on NBC, and later on USA), and starred Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe.

He looked down and saw that Mouch had been bleeding — and then flat-lined. As the camera panned out, it became clear why the title of the episode was “Red Waterfall,” as blood ran off the side of Mouch’s hospital bed and Herrmann screamed for a doctor.

Along with the Lopezes, stars include Matt Shively as Mayan’s live-in boyfriend Quinten Van Bryan, Brice Gonzalez as their son Chance Lopez-Van Bryan, Selenis Leyva as Mayan’s mother and Geroge’s ex Rosie and Al Madrigal as George’s employee Oscar. The series frequently features guest roles played by prominent Latino actors such as Constance Marie, Rita Moreno, Justina Machado, Marilyn Milian, Danny Trejo and Melissa Fumero.

Despite fan speculation, Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney is not going to appear in the season 11 finale. As Deadline previously reported exclusively, the fan favorite who plays Kelly Severide, has been on a leave of absence since January, dealing with a personal matter. Chicago Fire alum Jesse Spencer, who starred as Matt Casey alongside Kinney for 10 seasons, returned earlier this season and will guest star again in the season finale.
