EXCLUSIVE: Dick Wolf-exec produced drama series On Call is the latest series to shut down its production.
The series, which is Wolf’s first scripted streaming series for Amazon Prime Video, was shooting down in Long Beach, California but has now suspended for the day, Universal Television confirmed.
It marks the first major Amazon series to suspend production due to the writers strike.
Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars) and Brandon Larracuente (The Good Doctor) star in the half-hour drama, which was originally set up at Amazon Freevee before moving to Prime Video.
The half-hour drama comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. It landed an eight-episode order.
Co-created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, the series follows Traci Harmon, a veteran female training officer (Belisario) and her rookie male ride-along, Alex Diaz (Larracuente), as they navigate the loss of a fellow officer and politics of modern day policing — in the department and on the streets of Long Beach.
Belisario’s Traci Harmon is a veteran officer who’s disillusioned with the job and struggles to find her place in the department while training the next generation of officers. Larracuente’s Alex Diaz is an ambitious Latino trainee who grapples with holding onto his optimistic outlook as he realizes the challenges he’ll face as a police officer in today’s climate.
On Call was originally picked up by then-IMDb TV — Amazon’s free, AVOD service which has since been rebranded as Amazon Freevee — in spring 2021, with Ben Watkins as showrunner and Elliot Wolf as executive producer. The creative team behind the project has since changed, with Walsh, former co-executive producer of Wolf Entertainment’s Chicago P.D., and Elliot (Dark Woods) as

Emily Longeretta Warning: This story contains spoilers from “Red Waterfall,” the Season 11 finale of NBC’s “Chicago Fire.” Is another main character leaving the One Chicago universe? During the “Chicago Med” finale on Wednesday, original star Nick Gehlfuss made his final appearance — one of the many exits that has happened over the last year in the Dick Wolf procedurals. During the Season 11 “Chicago Fire” finale, Mouch (played by Christian Stolte, who has been on the series since 2012 debut) was hit by shrapnel during a call with a live shooter. After being rushed to the hospital, the firehouse was alerted that it wasn’t a bullet and that he was alert and recovering. However, in the final moments of the episode, Herrmann (David Eigenberg) was by Mouch’s side when he realized that he was looking pale. He looked down and saw that Mouch had been bleeding — and then flat-lined. As the camera panned out, it became clear why the title of the episode was “Red Waterfall,” as blood ran off the side of Mouch’s hospital bed and Herrmann screamed for a doctor.
Chicago Med is down one more doctor following the season 8 finale of the popular NBC series.
SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals major spoilers from NBC’s Chicago Med’s Season 8 finale.
Emily Longeretta Warning: This story contains spoilers from “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?,” the Season 8 finale of “Chicago Med.” Nick Gehlfuss is hanging up his lab coat. The actor, who has portrayed Dr. Will Halstead on all eight seasons of “Chicago Med,” has exited the series, making his final appearance on Wednesday night’s Season 8 finale. As Will left the hospital following the many changes at Gaffney, he reunited with his ex-fiancée, Natalie (Torrey DeVitto, who made a surprise appearance in the episode after leaving at the end of Season 6). “It was a difficult decision, but ultimately, I felt I’d taken Dr. Halstead as far as I can go with him. I think that comes down to a creative part of you, or the energy or spirit you have that you’re either built for a very long time with one person or not,” Gehlfuss tells Variety. “I am attracted to the profession for the variety in it, and eight years is a long time. It’s two college degrees! I’m joking now that I basically have a doctorate in television.”
A surprising farewell! Nick Gehlfuss exited Chicago Med after eight seasons — but his goodbye episode had a silver lining for fans.
