A person has died after being hit by a train in Wigan.
Emergency crews were called to 'reports of a casualty on the tracks' near Lowton at around 5.50pm yesterday (Thursday). Tragically, a person was pronounced dead on the scene.
No further details on their gender or age have been released at this stage. British Transport Police said their death was not being treated as suspicious.

A file will be prepared for the coroner. In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line in Lowton at around 5.50pm yesterday (18 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The line was blocked between Eccles and Huyton in Merseyside as emergency crews responded to the incident. Travellers were warned of 'major disruption' late into Thursday night.
