California Governor Gavin Newsom announced during his daily COVID-19 press conference Thursday, that he had signed an executive order that severely limits debt collectors the ability to garnish stimulus checks. However, the he said that his order does not apply to those who owe child support or alimony. The Governor also noted that that 21 out of the state’s 24 largest loan servicers will offer a 90-day forbearance on student loan debt, which will impact over 1.1 million Californians.
