Essential surgeries that were postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak can again be rescheduled, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday.
"We are in position today to begin to pull back and lean in by beginning to schedule surgeries once again, not only through our hospital system but broader health-care system," Newsom said Wednesday during his daily coronavirus update. "These are surgeries that are essential," he emphasized, citing tumor and heart valve surgeries.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom saw the images that circulated widely over the weekend showing off massive crowds at Southern California beaches, and he slammed those in defiance as showing what "not to do" amid statewide stay-at-home orders.
While the statewide ‘stay-at-home’ and social physical distancing measures appear to slightly flatten the curve in California as related to the number of COVID-19 related deaths and positive test results of people infected, Governor Gavin Newsom warned state’s residents to maintain their efforts.
