Jon Dadi Bodvarsson admits he was nervous for the phone call to turn down an Iceland international call this summer for the benefit of the upcoming campaign with Bolton Wanderers.
The 30-year-old forward joined Wanderers in the January transfer window from Millwall. He joined the Whites on an 18-month contract on a free transfer.
It proved to be a successful move for the forward, who played just once in the first half of the campaign with the Lions. After getting his fitness up to speed, Bodvarsson scored seven times in 21 games, including the club's last strike of the campaign in the 4-2 victory over Fleetwood Town.

Bodvarsson has scored four goals in 64 appearances for his country and it was expected he would be given another chance to add to those tallies this summer. Iceland had four games in June against Israel, Albania and San Marino, a combination of Uefa Nations League and friendly fixtures.
However, he was not in Arnar Vidarsson's squad owing to the timing of the fixtures clashing with Wanderers returning for pre-season training. It was therefore agreed to leave Bodvarsson out and he will be back for the next round of internationals in September.
Bodvarsson admits he was nervous for the call to Vidarsson to turn down his country on this occasion, as he takes pride in representing his nation. But the Wanderers striker admitted he needed a breather from football and does not regret the decision, believing it will prepare him for the big upcoming campaign with Wanderers where promotion is being targeted.
He told the Manchester Evening News at the club's Portugal training camp: "I’ll be honest, I was nervous
