Bolton early season vow involving Sheffield Wednesday & Ipswich as Derby Boxing Day clash 'huge'

Ian Evatt believes the big teams that Bolton Wanderers face early on in the League One season will not relish facing his side and reflected on the 'huge' Boxing Day clash against former club Derby County.
Wanderers finished last season ninth in League One, a good achievement for a newly promoted side to the division. But this campaign, Wanderers have their sights firmly set on a promotion challenge and are seeking to return to the Championship for the first time since 2019.
The 2022/23 fixtures were confirmed yesterday morning and Evatt's men will begin their campaign on the road against the Tractor Boys on July 30, whom they defeated 5-2 at Portman Road last season in emphatic fashion. Wanderers completed the double over Ipswich with a 2-0 win at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Bolton's first home game of the season will be against defeated play-off finalists Wycombe Wanderers in a challenging start to the season. In their first 11 games Wanderers will also face Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle, MK Dons, Peterborough United and Portsmouth.
On paper, it is an exciting challenge for Wanderers to be pitting themselves against several sides likely to have aspirations of being near the top of the table. But Evatt believes those teams will be looking at Wanderers and know they will have a big game in store, a product of the position the club is now in.
