Henry Ramsay, the charming, curly-haired joker from Aussie soap Neighbours, was a character we all adored. He was the son of Madge (played by Anne Charleston) and brother to mechanic Charlene, famously portrayed by Kylie Minogue.
The role was played by actor Craig McLachlan, who was introduced by show bosses in 1987 as a new heartthrob to fill the shoes of the recently-departed Shane Ramsay (Peter O'Brien). Over more than 800 episodes, he set viewers' hearts aflutter with his clumsy plots, flirtatious antics, and those iconic dungarees.
Craig bagged three Australian TV Logie awards for his performance before bidding farewell to the soap in 1989. He then made a splash in TV rival, Home And Away. He even tasted UK chart success with the song Mona (I Need You Baby), touring the UK and Europe with his band, Check 1-2.
In 1993, he took centre stage in the London West End revival of the musical Grease, and also appeared in The Rocky Horror Show, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Chicago. Fast forward 37 years from Craig's soap debut and he looks very different. Earlier this week, he posted to his Instagram stories, showing him on a bike ride where he encountered some kangaroos.
In another video he was seen going surfing on a sunny Aussie beach. TV viewers might recall Craig from his stint on ITV's Dancing On Ice in 2011, where he partnered with dancer Elen Rivas. The duo were eliminated early on, with Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe and her partner Sylvain Longchambon just scraping through after a nail-biting skate-off.
