NBC has handed a series order to The Hunting Party, a high-concept crime procedural from JJ Bailey, The Endgame co-creator Jake Coburn and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The pickup was teased by Universal TV President Erin Underhill in her Q&A with Deadline about the studio’s drama procedural business.
Created and written by Bailey, The Hunting Party is about a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.
Bailey and Coburn will executive produce and serve as co-showrunners. Bailey, who wrote the pilot, has an overall deal with UTV. Jake Coburn has a first-look deal with UTV.
The Hunting Party was one of two drama projects NBC commissioned writers rooms for last February. The other, Grosse Pointe Garden Society from Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, just received a pilot order.
NBC’s other 2024 pilots include Suits: L.A. and a Reba McEntire comedy.

The project is titled “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.” The official logline reads, “Four members of a suburban garden club, all from different walks of life, get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.” Bans and Krebs serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot. Bans will executive produce under her Minnesota Logging Company banner along with Casey Kyber.
