Joe Otterson TV Reporter AnnaSophia Robb has been cast in a lead role of the NBC drama pilot “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” Variety has learned. NBC ordered the pilot back in February. The logline states, “Four members of a suburban garden club, all from different walks of life, get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.” Robb will star as Alice, described as “your favorite high school English teacher, a dreamer whose best dreams are crashing down on her.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Maggie Kiley is attached to direct and executive produce the NBC drama pilot “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” Variety has learned exclusively. The pilot was ordered at NBC in February. It hails from writers and executive producers Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs.

NBC has handed a series order to The Hunting Party, a high-concept crime procedural from JJ Bailey, The Endgame co-creator Jake Coburn and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The pickup was teased by Universal TV President Erin Underhill in her Q&A with Deadline about the studio’s drama procedural business.

Absence does make the heart grow fonder as viewers have welcomed the return of the broadcast scripted series after a long delay due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Ratings have been strong all around, including for all nine Wolf Entertainment procedurals from Universal Television, the Law & Order and Chicago franchises at NBC and the FBI trio at CBS as well CBS/UTV’s The Equalizer. The Chicagosand the Law & Orders all opened their new seasons up by double digits in both total viewers and adults 18-49 from their final four episodes last season. The premieres of FBIs and Equalizer ranked in the Top 13 most watched primetime programs the week of Feb. 12, all up or on par with the most recent episodes last season.

Bans will executive produce under her Minnesota Logging Company banner along with Casey Kyber.

The initial premise of Good Girls sounded more like a movie than a broadcast drama: Three women struggling to keep their family afloat rob a grocery store in order to make ends meet, only to find out they've stolen money from a local cartel that intends to collect. Yet executive producers Jenna Bans and and Bill Krebs have managed to turn what sounded like a two-hour melodrama into one of the most addictive shows on TV.
