MTV's decision to host this year's EMAs in Manchester has been welcomed by city leaders who say it will bring a "multi-million pound boost" to the city. MTV bosses announced earlier today that its European Music Awards will be hosted in Manchester for the first time on November 10.
The MTV EMAs are held annually in a different world city, and for 2024 will be held at the brand-new state-of-the-art arena Co-op Live. When it opens this spring the venue will become the biggest indoor arena in the UK with a capacity of 23,500.
MTV's choice of Manchester as host city for the awards - that are seen by an audience of millions around the globe - reflects Manchester's track record in hosting world-class and international events say council bosses. Previous ceremonies have seen performances by some of the world's biggest stars including Ed Sheeran, Muse and Dua Lipa.

The council says its track record for holding major events has been made possible over the years through the strength of the partnerships that exist across the city between organisations including the city council and Marketing Manchester, as well as the city's commercial, hospitality, retail and transport sectors. Hosting the MTV EMAs will bring an "anticipated multi-million pound boost to the local economy" they say.
