The Met Office has issued its verdict on when snow could fall in Greater Manchester next week, as cold arctic air sweeps the country. Travel across the UK could be disrupted, with cold weather alerts in place as up to 10cm of snow is forecast in some areas.
Ahead of the weekend, rather cold but largely dry conditions are predicted, with temperatures dropping below zero for many overnight. But a northerly airflow will bring cold arctic air to the UK from Sunday onwards.
Yellow weather warnings have been put in place for northern Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the former potentially seeing up to 10cm of snow across Sunday and Monday. Northern Ireland could see up to 5cm of snow on higher grounds, with a few centimetres expected at lower levels.

But it might not be until Monday evening that Greater Manchester sees some of the white stuff. A Met Office spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: "There is a weak front sinking south across the northern half of the UK on Saturday, so Greater Manchester could see some drizzle and light rain at times.
"Conditions will be drier on Sunday before the chance of some snow showers moving in from Monday night."
Through the middle of next week, with cold air firmly in place over the UK, the chance of snow increases across many areas for a time, the Met Office added. On Tuesday, there is the potential for areas of snow to move inland over parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England. On Wednesday, there is a risk of snowfall across southern parts of the UK.
