Masked robbers armed with baseball bats and a crowbar carried out a smash-and-grab raid at an Asda store just before closing and made their getaway in a Land Rover Discovery on false plates.
The attack happened at around 9.34pm when four men wearing balaclavas and gloves burst into Asda on Bolton Road in Atherton, Wigan. They were armed with baseball bats, a crowbar and a knife and ordered staff to 'get down' before plundering cash from the tills and cigarettes from displays.
They swiped between £200 and £400 in cash and also stole cigarettes and other tobacco products worth an estimated £10,000 which they stuffed into a builder's rubble sack, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP). No-one was injured, according to the force.
