A former football prodigy is facing a lengthy jail sentence after admitting his part in a huge drugs conspiracy. Jamie Cassidy, a former Liverpool FC youth star, has admitted his role in a drugs gang.
He pleaded guilty to involvement in the racket alongside his brother, Jonathan Cassidy. A third man, Nasar Ahmed, from Bury, also admitted his role.
The trio had been due to go on trial at Manchester Crown Court, but now face sentencing next month. Jamie Cassidy, now 46, won the FA Youth Cup in 1996 while playing for Liverpool's youth team.

His teammates in the squad included Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen. Liverpool beat a West Ham team which included future England stars Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.
But Cassidy, a midfielder, was released without making a first team appearance after a series of injuries. He later signed for Cambridge United before playing for non-league sides.
In his 2008 autobiography, Carragher said Cassidy ‘would have been a certain Liverpool regular if he hadn’t suffered so much with injuries’. Cassidy was arrested in the wake of the law enforcement infiltration of EncroChat, an encrypted communications system favoured by organised criminals.
The facts of the case against the Cassidys and Ahmed have not yet been disclosed in court. Jamie Cassidy appeared in court via video link on Monday from HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
The Cassidys and Ahmed all pleaded guilty on the eve of a proposed trial.
They have been remanded in custody for more than three years awaiting trial. Jamie Cassidy admitted conspiracy to supply class A drugs and conspiracy to launder money.
