It’s an exhausting routine he’s endured for more than three decades. Since leaving the Army in 1993, Mark has suffered from flashbacks so terrifying he imagines himself back on the frontline.
Mark, from Urmston, was just a young man when he was made redundant from the forces. He joined the Army in 1979 and served in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.

In a bid to settle into civilian life, the now 61-year-old took up a whopping 37 jobs in 10 years just to stay busy.
But despite trying his hand at being a lorry driver, a bin man, a cleaner and a chef, Mark couldn't cope with the slow-paced reality of life outside the Army.
That’s when he noticed something wasn’t right with his mental health. “It was a lot easier pace,” the granddad-of-ten told the Manchester Evening News. “I found it so difficult.
“Going straight into work, I just started realising something was wrong in my head. I found it hard to settle. I didn’t have the bonds or the friendships I had built up in the battalion.”
But while he missed military life, it didn’t take long for Mark to start suffering horrifying nightmares and flashbacks – visions that took him straight back to traumatic service experiences.
Even a simple walk down the street could trigger the dad-of-four, who constantly felt like he was going to be attacked.
“You get this vision that something isn’t right,” he added. “You’re watching around you all the time.
