Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has been told he lacks the consistency needed to succeed at a big club, according to Paul Parker.
The England international has enjoyed a meteoric rise to re-establish himself as a first-team player and reclaimed his place in the Three Lions squad under Gareth Southgate after a number of dismal seasons.
But during the current campaign, Shaw has come under fire for his role during their autumn collapse as the likes of Roy Keane have aimed criticism at the full-back following the failure to maintain his form.
“Some might say that Luke Shaw has done this and done that, but it's been bits and bobs," the former Reds full-back said speaking to MyBettingSites.
"If you play for big clubs and you haven't got consistency in your CV, then you're not good enough to be at a big club.
“Not everyone can play great every week but there's a certain level you don't drop below. And they've dropped below that level far too often, for everyone to go 'it's okay, they had an off day.'
Parker continued his criticism of the 26-year-old and his defensive partners, stating the case for selling Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka after their disappointing performances this season to recoup funds.
He said: “The place needs a big broom going right the way through it, when you spend over £150 million on three defenders and clean sheets are a rarity.
“Most Man Utd fans would agree with it [offloading Maguire, Shaw and Wan-Bissaka]. Totally agree with it.
“As long as the money goes back in the pot to go out and replace those players or maybe get two defenders and get a player in another position that's fine. For all that money you can get better defenders who'll be able to play the game better for Man Utd for less
