Former England and Sheffield Wednesday winger Chris Waddle believes Manchester United would make the progress they are desperate to if they installed Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new manager.
The Austrian, who took over at Southampton in December 2018, has overseen a gradual improvement at St Mary's over the last three years. His work has attracted a wave of admiration and plaudits in recent months, with the club having lost just seven of their 26 Premier League games this season.
Furthermore, the Saints, who drew at Old Trafford last month, producing an excellent performance in the process, are still alive and kicking in the FA Cup this term, with some voices suggesting that Hasenhuttl could lead the club to a trophy this season. That belief has extended from the former RB Leipzig boss' work.

Following last month's meeting at Old Trafford between the two clubs, Hasenhuttl was quickly touted to become United's next boss, with his pleasing-on-the-eye style at St Mary's attracting plenty of plaudits. For Waddle, the Austrian has the potential to improve United, pointing to how much he could get from a hugely talented squad at Old Trafford, recognising what he has done at Southampton.
"I like the Southampton manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl," Waddle told Compare.bet. "If he had a squad like what Man United's got or could add to... we know United aren't short of money.
"If he identified and brought in three of four players… I like the way he plays, he plays on the front foot, a little bit like Man City and Liverpool. It's entertaining.
