Manchester United have added Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to their managerial shortlist as the pursuit of a permanent head coach continues.
That is according to the Mirror, who say the former RB Leipzig chief is a name that the club are prepared to consider should they fail to snap up either of their first choices, Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag. Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, the ex-Tottenham head coach was heavily linked with the vacant position in November but Paris Saint-Germain played hardball.
The Austrian was first mooted in the conversation prior to the Saints' visit to Old Trafford where it saw Hasenhuttl come up against his former director, Ralf Rangnick. His Southampton side have quietly developed into an exciting, pragmatic team and shone upon their visit to Manchester recently.

It has also been said that their performances against Manchester City have made football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher aware of the 54-year-old's work - who would jump at the chance of managing a club of United's stature. Despite their recent defeat, they're defensively astute and have been savvy in the transfer market and snapped up coups like Tino Livramento as well as Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.
He has previously brushed off speculation, saying after the draw at Old Trafford: "This is not in my mind, and also not the things that are interesting me, I don’t want to speak about my future every week..."
Their recent run came grinding to a halt after a 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
