Pep Guardiola has faced Manchester United on two occasions in the Premier League this season and each time, he's provided a tactical masterclass. When the two sides met in November, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in the charge of the Reds and to ensure his team remained defensively resolute, he opted for a back three system.
3-5-2 was his formation of choice but due to Guardiola's tactical ploys, United ended up forming a back five instead, with Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus pinning back Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. As a result of United's wing-backs being unable to advance beyond their own defensive third, Joao Cancelo was free to run the game as the team's left-back, posting the most touches and progressive passes on the day while also setting up both goals.
Manchester City faced their neighbours once again on Sunday afternoon, and Guardiola's approach was different but equally effective. Ralf Rangnick was United's coach this time around, and the German coach opted for 4-4-2.

United's right side seemed to be targeted by Guardiola from the first whistle, who used Cancelo, Foden, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva to cause serious problems for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Rangnick's right-back was overloaded by as many as four players at times, with Anthony Elanga permitted to remain high up the field to make use of counter-attacks.
United's entire formation had to become lopsided in order to cope, with Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof regularly shuffling over to support Wan-Bissaka against Guardiola's technicians.
