A man has admitted to assaulting drag queen The Vivienne in a McDonald's in Liverpool.
Alan Whitefield, 50, appeared at Liverpool Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (September 5). He pleaded guilty to one charge of assault by beating.
The incident happened inside the McDonald's at Edge lane Retail Park on Montrose Way on June 16, 2023. Whitfield, of Tom Mann Close, Everton, spoke in court to confirm his name, date of birth, and address before pleading guilty.
Prosecuting, Andy Page said the attack was the result of "homophobic hatred". Meanwhile, Richard Darby, defending Whitfield, argued against this, stating the assault came after scars on his client's face had been mocked, the Liverpool Echo reports.
A Newton Hearing will take place at the same court on December 1 in order to determine what the full nature of the incident was. This process will involve CCTV from McDonald's, the 999 call, and evidence from The Vivienne - real name James Lee Williams.
