Manchester City have named Sir Richard Leese as a new honorary president of the club.
Leese, 71, is a former leader of the Manchester City Council and a long-term City supporter. He was a season ticket holder at Maine Road and has been a regular attendee of matches since the mid-90s.
Leese joins fellow honorary presidents Tony Book, Raymond Domm and Sir Howard Bernstein in a group that also used to include the late Ian Niven MBE and Tudor Thomas who have since passed away. Leese's position will see him take part in a ceremonial role in key club activities alongside his regular match attendance.

After serving as leader of the City Council since 1996 following several more years dedicated to public service, Leese stepped down from his position in December 2021. Under his leadership, Manchester underwent a revival and he was awarded the CBE in 2000 before being knighted in 2006 for services to local government.
Without Leese, City may also not call the Etihad Stadium their home today. The Mansfield native had a massive hand in Manchester's successful bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2002, for which the City of Manchester Stadium was built after initially being proposed as an athletics arena in the city's bid to host the 2000 Olympics.
City moved into the stadium from Maine Road in 2003 and the area surrounding the ground in East Manchester has seen wide-scale regeneration in the two decades since. Leese is only semi-retired from his duties and still plays an active role in Manchester's progress as Chair of NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care.
