M&S has faced even more backlash online after a nightmare week that saw the retailer issue an apology for a social media post. After the release of the M&S Christmas advert, which shows a host of celebs like Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Hannah Waddingham destroying some festive 'traditions', a screenshot of the advert was posted on Instagram.
The image showed an outtake from the ad of some Christmas paper hats burning in a fire grate. But people pointed out these were the colours of the Palestinian flag, branding the store "insensitive" due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza
The retailer has since deleted the post and issued an apology statement in which it was explained the advert was shot back in August, before the escalation of the Israel-Hamas war, the Mirror reports. But it seems as though all is not forgiven after M&S announced a new partnership with Wrexham FC in a new Instagram post.
Sharing a video on their official Instagram page, the store wrote: "WREXHAM AFC HAS A NEW SIGNING. That’s right... we at @marksandspencerfood are delighted to be an OFFICIAL partner of @wrexham_afc in the first club sponsorship in our history! The multi-year deal as official partners of Wrexham AFC will see national and community led activations that support children and families in the local area. Stay tuned to see what happened when some *very special* guests attended the STōK Cae Ras."
Angry shoppers then took to the comments, with one demanding: "Why you still posting like as if nothings happened." While another wrote: "Good luck with your business failing." A third fumed: "They think people will just forget about it. You have a store 2 minute from my house. Oh I definitely decided to walk 30 minutes instead to sainsburys.." Another raged:
