A man has been arrested after windows were smashed at a Co-op in Manchester city centre.
Local residents near Angel Square reported hearing 'loud bangs' and seeing a number of police officers at around 6.30am this morning (Monday). Police said officers were called to reports of 'criminal damage of a building'.
Pictures taken at the scene this morning showed the Co-op store on Angel Street, which is close to the Co-op HQ, left with damaged windows on the shop front. A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

He was taken into custody for questioning. The shop appeared to be open as normal to customers this morning.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At approximately 6:30am this morning (9 October 2023), officers were called to reports of criminal damage of a building in Angel Square, Manchester where a number of windows were reported to have been smashed.
"A male has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody for questioning."
