Dame Kelly Holmes has described Kate Middleton as 'genuine' and 'easy-going' as she chatted to OK! this week about the Princess Of Wales, with the pair having worked together on charity events. Explaining that Kate, 42, who recently bravely spoke out on her cancer treatment, takes her job much more seriously than just turning up, former Olympian Kelly shared: "She isn't just there as a photo opportunity," when talking about Kate and her support of charity work.
Adding that she is 'genuinely interested', Kelly, 53, told OK!: "She [Kate] was down to earth and interested in the people – when we were chatting, she was asking questions in more detail – and she was easygoing." The Princess Of Wales has supported Kelly's charity, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, which helps retired athletes and matches them as mentors with young people, on numerous occasions. However, the royal is currently out of action from engagements as she battles cancer, something which she only disclosed to the public on 21 March.
Kate has been away from work since December, with Kensington Palace initially informing the public that she was undergoing a planned abdominal surgery in January and would need until Easter to recover. At the time, it was thought that the condition was non-cancerous, as no tests had confirmed the presence of cancer.
However, now Kate has bravely shared that she is in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy for the undisclosed form of cancer. Sharing the news via an emotional video message, mother-of-three Kate said: "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery.
