Depeche Mode Plays Emotional, Energetic Set in First L.A. Show Since Andrew Fletcher’s Death: Concert Review

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large One of my best friends in high school used to say she preferred the music of “post modern” (as the genre was dubbed at the time) groups like Depeche Mode because their sound was timeless, vs. the era’s disposable top 40 radio tracks, which were destined to sound dated in just a few years. And she was right, kind of: A Depeche Mode concert manages to straddle that line between digging deep into its four-decade catalog and not feeling like a legacy act. That was mostly on display Tuesday night at the Kia Forum, where Depeche Mode played the third date of its brand new “Momento Mori” tour. (They’ll be back at the Forum in December for two more shows.)

Gucci Mane brings back “’06 Gucci” in new song snippet

Gucci Mane has teased the return of his old rap style from 2006 in a nostalgic Instagram post. The post promoted an upcoming song, saying “06 Gucci back who ready?”Mane recreated the album artwork of his 2005 debut studio album ‘Trap House’ before two five-second-long snippets of the song that will be reminiscent of his old sound. The snippets suggested the trap pioneer still feels like he’s in his prime: “I feel like it’s me in ‘07, ‘08, and even ‘09.”A post shared by Gucci Mane (@laflare1017)The other snippet referred to Gucci Mane boasting about being “hard to kill”, suggestively alluding to his claim of killing Pookie Loc in self-defence in 2005. He rapped: “Still hard to kill/ The last n***a tried/ Go ask him, he didn’t survive.”The untitled track would be Gucci Mane’s second single of the year after the Kodak Black-assisted ‘King Snipe’.Gucci Mane has recently been occupied with running his label, 1017 Records, and building up its roster. The label last year recently released Mane’s ‘SoIcyBoyz’ album series, with its sixth and final instalment being 80 tracks long.

Depeche Mode talk becoming “closer” after the death of Andy Fletcher

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have spoken to NME about how the death of Andy Fletcher impacted their dynamic, and said that the loss brought them closer. The two surviving members were speaking as part of a new interview with NME when they opened up about how Andy Fletcher’s death last year impacted the band. Frontman Gahan likened the loss of the keyboardist to that of The Rolling Stones’ late drummer, Charlie Watts.“With The Stones losing Charlie Watts, knowing about their longevity and how it’s fucking hard work to keep a band going for that long, you realise how it’s got to be losing an anchor,” Gahan told NME.

Roy Trakin Depeche Mode, the pioneering ‘80s U.K. technopop band, has long had a strong following in Los Angeles — thanks to their exposure on local alternative stalwart KROQ — and now they’re proving a favorite of film and TV creative executives. The group, consisting of co-founders Martin Gore and vocalist Dave Gahan after the death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, is on a roll following its 2020 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they were introduced by Charlize Theron, who called them “the soundtrack of my life.” Depeche Mode’s new Mute/Columbia Records album, “Memento Mori,” comes out March 24, their first since 2017’s “Spirit” and 15th overall, which will be followed by a year-long tour that launches March 23 in Sacramento and includes a show at L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28 and four concluding area shows in December, two apiece at Kia and Crypto.com Arena.
