Kacey Musgraves has released a cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’, which is set to feature in the upcoming biopic about the reggae icon. Listen to the track below.The reverb-heavy acoustic version of the track is one of six covers of Marley songs that will accompany the film’s release, with the other artists including Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, Skip Marley and Wizkid.‘Three Little Birds’ was first released on Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1977 album ‘Exodus’, later reaching the Top 20 in 1980 as a single.Listen to Musgraves’ version of the song below.The feature length biopic about the reggae icon, titled Bob Marley: One Love, is due to be released in UK cinemas on February 14, 2024, with British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders, One Night in Miami) playing the musician.The film has been made in partnership with Marley’s family, and also stars James Norton, Lashana Lynch and Tosin Cole.

Happy Mondays‘ Shaun Ryder has made a guest appearance on a posthumous single, ‘Green Banana’ by Lee “Scratch” Perry.The upbeat new track is taken from the late dub legend’s forthcoming posthumous album ‘King Perry’, which will be released on February 2 via False Idols. It has been released alongside a remix by Bristol duo Dubkasm.It follows the previously released single ‘100lbs of Summer’ featuring Greentea Peng, which was also released alongside a remix by Tricky.The album was written, recorded, and produced by Perry together with producer Daniel Boyle before his death in August 2021 at the age of 85.Check out ‘Green Banana’ below:According to a statement, the new album was Perry’s idea to “do something new, something different but still with a dub framework”.The record, which will reportedly incorporate “synthwave, big beat, drum & bass and electronica”, will be a “kaleidoscopic and engaging melting pot of rhythms, melodies, and voices.” It also said that “Poignantly, closing track ‘Goodbye’ was Perry’s last ever recorded vocal performance.”In other news, Ryder’s biopic Twisting My Melon has been halted due to creative disputes.In 2013, ITV announced it was planning to serialise the Happy Mondays frontman’s autobiography Twisting My Melon. Eventually, Jack O’Connell (Skins) was announced as the lead actor in 2019.

Yungblud has released ‘When We Die (Can We Still Get High?)’, his first single of 2024, featuring Lil Yachty.The track sees the English musician – born Dominic Harrison – confronting metaphysical questions, opening with the lyrics: “Does Heaven have a dealer? Do they sell the love for cheaper than in Hollywood? / As hell is gettin’ colder, I don’t plan on gettin’ older in this neighbourhood“, before culminating in him belting the song’s title over an immense soundscape: “When we die, tell me, can we still get high?”Later in the track, Lil Yachty joins in with mind-bending bars: “If you fall far too deep / Lose yourself in your new life / Head over heels for your new eyes“, the track’s trippy production complementing the rapper-producer’s current psych-rock phase, heralded by his 2023 album ‘Let’s Start Here’.In a press release, Yungblud spoke about intending to collaborate with Lil Yachty since 2019. “When we die (can we still get high?)’ was one of the first songs I wrote when I got to New Orleans to make new music,” he wrote.

Declan McKenna has released ‘Mulholland’s Dinner and Wine’, the latest single from his upcoming third album – check out the track below.It is the latest song to be released ahead of the singer-songwriter’s third studio album ‘What Happened To The Beach?’, which is due for release on February 9 via his own label Tomplicated Records (pre-order/pre-save here).The track is a sunkissed, light psychedelic romp that features warped, watery guitar lines and McKenna singing, “I got a boring apartment, and all of the drugs / I’m fucking dangerous, I get what I want”.Speaking about the song, McKenna said: “’Mulholland’s Dinner and Wine’ was written with Gianluca Buccellati as a kind of weird, warped story about a cartoon-y criminal duo, and the origins of the title come from an off-licence in the UK, but it became entangled with Mulholland drive in LA. Mumford & Sons have opened up about their collaboration with Pharrell on new single ‘Good People’ – their first new music in five years.The British band returned with the single yesterday (January 16), which was produced by Pharrell and features his backing vocals.The artists also brought in the vocals of a six-piece vocal choir from the USA and Canada, hailing from Native American Tribes within the Northern Great Plains.In a new interview with The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, Marcus Mumford recalled meeting Pharrell almost 10 years ago on the festival circuit, sharing that they “instantly got on”.“There was a mutual kind of respect and admiration straight away,” he added.”And we’ve always talked about making music together. We’ve always talked about just getting in the studio and seeing what happened.”The band were performing at Pharrell’s festival Something in the Water in Virginia Beach last year when they committed to getting in the studio.“And I said to him, man, we’ve got to do that thing we’ve always talked about doing and get in the studio together,” Mumford said.

Sam Fender has shared his soulful new song ‘Iris’, taken from the soundtrack to the new film Jackdaw.The track was debuted on Edith Bowman’s BBC Radio 2 Culture Club show yesterday (Tuesday January 9), and can be heard here from around the 38 minute mark, or below. The first new material from Fender following on his 2021 second album ‘Seventeen Going Under‘ – named as NME‘s Album Of The Year – was described by Bowman as “absolute perfection” in how it accompanies a touching scene in Jackdaw, which is set in Fender’s native North East of the UK.“He’s been away doing what he does and writing new things, and what’s absolutely wonderful is that he’s been incredibly supportive of fellow creatives – in the form of Jamie Childs the filmmaker, who’s about to release his first feature film,” said Bowman introducing the film.”She continued: “Jamie has worked across some brilliant programmes, directing things like Dr Who, The Sandman, His Dark Materials, and now he’s about to release his first feature film Jackdaw – which is set in the North East of England, which is where Sam is from.“They got in touch with Sam and said, ‘Do you fancy seeing if you’ve got anything around?’ and, lo and behold, Sam gifts them this track exclusively for the film – and it could not be more fitting.”The song leans on Fender’s soulful side, set to a stripped-back guitar backing as the North Shields artist tenderly sings of a woman navigating her way through hard times in the North East.Jackdaw is released in cinemas January 26 following a Stockton-On-Tees premiere on January 24.

Alex Ritman The British Academy has appointed award-winning producer Joyce Pierpoline as the chair of BAFTA North America’s board of directors.
