A young autistic woman who died while a patient at a psychiatric ward more than 250 miles from home did not intend to take her own life, an inquest jury has concluded. There were 'missed opportunities' to find Lauren Bridges a bed closer to home, jurors found.
The 20-year-old was found unconscious in her en-suite bathroom at the Priory's Cheadle Royal Hospital at around 10pm on February 24 last year. She was rushed to Wythenshawe Hospital with her family making the six-hour journey to be at her bedside.
A clinical decision was taken - in consultation with Lauren's mother Lindsey and loved ones - to end her life support. She died two days later on February 26.

Following four weeks of evidence, a jury at South Manchester Coroners' in Stockport, concluded there were 'missed opportunities' to find Lauren a bed closer to home during her seven-month admission. Jurors said Lauren's desire to be closer to home was a 'consistent theme' during her treatment at the facility.
A spokesperson for the jury said there were beds available in Bournemouth for 'more than half of the days' of Lauren's admission, but that she was 'not actively considered' for them.
A conclusion of misadventure was also recorded. Jurors said they didn't believe Lauren intended to take her own life.
The inquest's conclusion brings to an end a family's long wait for answers. A previous inquest, which began in February, had to be abandoned after three days due to issues over court time.
