But despite new-builds often being dubbed to 'all look the same', one homeowner in Lancashire has shown how you can transform a basic property by experimenting with colour. Kate Ward, 39, and her husband bought their four-bed house in Burscough, Lancashire, around seven years ago, and since then they have completely transformed it, as well as giving their huge garden a grand makeover.
The mum-of-two spoke to the Manchester Evening News as part of our Where I Live series, where each week we chat to a different homeowner about their buying and renovation journey; whilst looking at how they've made their house a home.
