Princess Catherine (aka Kate Middleton) just got a few updates to her royal title!
The 41-year-old Princess of Wales was one of nine royals to receive additional titles on Friday (August 11). Others include King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Richard and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester.
The titles have to do with the military, and one of Princess Catherine‘s highlights a unique connection between her and her late grandfather-in-law Prince Philip that can be traced back to the 1960s.

The palace addressed the new titles in a statement, writing, “Following His Majesty’s Accession, The King is pleased to announce further military appointments for working Members of the Royal Family. The new appointments will continue to reflect the close relationship between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family in His Majesty’s reign” (via People).
The Princess is now going to be the Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm, Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards and Royal Honorary Air Commodore of Royal Air Force Coningsby.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Princess Catherine‘s title in the Royal Air Force (RAF) follows her grandfather Peter Middleton serving in the air force.
In fact, Hello! reported that Peter co-piloted a tour of South America in 1962, which Prince Philip was on. There is even a photo of the two.
