David de Gea's career as a Manchester United player should go beyond this season, according to Kasper Schmeichel.
The ex-Leicester City star and Premier League winner appeared on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.. Schmeichel, who now plays for French top flight side OGC Nice, discussed a range of top-flight topics after the Foxes' 2-2 draw with Everton.
As well as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's potential takeover at Old Trafford, Schmeichel was quizzed on De Gea's situation at United. The Spaniard, who has spent 12 years in Manchester, is out of contract this summer - with United wanting to lower his wages in order to give him an extension. Schmeichel believes a resolution will be found by all parties and had plenty of praise for De Gea's ability at the top level still.

"To be the number one at a football club the size of Manchester United is an incredible achievement and one that has to be really respected. I think, looking at his season, he’s been asked to play a completely different way to how he’s ever had to play.
"But from what I’m seeing - like I said before, you’ll notice the things that have gone wrong - but there’s a lot of things that have gone right as well. I think he’s playing at a really high level with his feet as well. The actual goalkeeping side of it has never been in question, because he is outrageous how good he is at that.
"I think Manchester United are looking at it in terms of what would it cost to replace
