She’s been popping up on Coronation Street since 2021, and now, actress Vicky Myers reveals her character DS Lisa Swain will be back on a permanent basis, as she’s been promoted to a regular character. DS Swain has a big case on her hands – the disappearance and suspected murder of Lauren Bolton, played by Cait Fitton. “I was contracted to do eight episodes, so this is really quite something,” says Vicky.
“My job at the time was to make sure I got to the truth of this woman as authentically as I possibly could. “If you run away with yourself, then you lose sight of what’s right in front of you. So I was very focused on creating this powerhouse woman.
And from there it progressed in such a wonderful way. But this was never expected at all.” With Lauren having disappeared suddenly, and without a trace, DS Swain begins to investigate. When blood is found in Lauren’s flat, there is huge cause for concern.
“DS Swain is very much ‘the victim’s voice’, so she works the case from Lauren’s perspective,” says Vicky. “She wants to know what’s happened to her.” Lauren’s best mate on the cobbles, Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) tells DS Swain about Lauren’s relationship with local hero Roy Cropper (David Neilson). She becomes highly suspicious of Roy when Bobby tells her about how close the pair were and how Roy gave Lauren a job, found her somewhere to live and cleaned up the mess in the flat after she left.
“DS Swain doesn’t know Roy, she doesn’t care about Roy,” explains Vicky. “And regardless of what anyone else says to her, she deals in facts. She’s got to get to the bottom of this.” Shockingly, DS Swain makes Roy her prime suspect and arrests him, making her less than popular with the other residents of the street.
