Kate Ford has become a staple to our TV screens over the years, having taken on the role of Tracy Barlow in Coronation Street back in 2002.
The actress has taken on some huge storylines on the cobbles, with Tracy most recently ending her marriage to husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) following an affair. Despite playing one of Corrie's biggest characters, Kate, 47, largely keeps out of the spotlight.
The star has, however, been open about her personal health struggles in a bid to help other women, and has spoken out about suffering from endometriosis on a handful of occasions.
Endometriosis is a condition which affects the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes and the condition can affect women of any age. Sufferers of the condition experience heavy periods, with pain that stops them from going about their everyday activities.
Women with the condition also sadly face difficulties when trying to get pregnant. Kate is not alone, as approximately one in 10 women of reproductive age in the UK suffer from endometriosis.
The actress has opened up about the condition in the past.
She previously admitted that it sometimes means she’s in pain whilst on the set of Coronation Street. While filming for the soap, she posted on social media: "Filming #itvcorrie this was a few weeks ago at a time that I was struggling with my #endrometriosis.
Luckily got lots of support x just sending a hug out to all those struggling with similar [heart emoji]." Kate has an advanced type of endometriosis, which means she has to deal with pain in different parts of her body, not just her womb. In 2020, she wrote on Twitter, now known as X:
