In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday's visit (17 April) to Coronation Street, Bobby Crawford implicated a new suspect in the Lauren Bolton murder case, as he valiantly tried to protect Weatherfield favourite Roy Cropper. As regular viewers will know, Roy was recently wrongly accused of Lauren's murder after she mysteriously vanished.
However, in a shocking twist, Bobby lied to the police, claiming he saw someone else at the scene while trying to defend the local businessman. During questioning at the police station, Bobby told the officers: "She was relentless, she even mentioned you.
I think she was just trying to get in my head. She wouldn't back off unless I gave her something.
I told her that I saw a block in a balaclava and a dark coat with a fur-trimmed hood." Carla Connor, Bobby's aunt, was concerned about his lie, pointing out that it could mislead the investigation, but Bobby defended his actions, saying: "They won't find Roy down that alley though will they? I panicked! Swain wasn't buying that I couldn't remember anything." Carla questioned his deviation from their agreed-upon story, to which Bobby replied: "I did kind of - it's not like I told her someone in a puffer with Adrian Chiles' face on it.", reports the Mirror. It remains to be seen how this new development will impact the ongoing investigation and whether Bobby's lie will ultimately help or hinder Roy's case.
