Ofcom has received 135 complaints after a bullying scene aired on Coronation Street.
The storyline, which has upset many fans, focuses around bully Mason, played by Luca Toolan, who is targeting Liam Connor, played by Charlie Wrenshall. In last week's episode on November 22, Mason and Dylan, played by Liam McCheyne, had a go at Liam despite claiming to be his friend. Mason scared him and shoved him to the floor which caused Liam to start crying.
The bully then cruelly told his friends to start throwing rubbish at him while the whole assault was videoed.
When Liam grabbed Mason’s phone, the thug pulled out a knife. The scenes have caused some fans to complain to Ofcom and others argued it was difficult to watch. Some fans are also worried that the highlighting of knife crime isn't suitable to air before the watershed.
In total, Ofcom received 135 complaints about the scenes. Fans of Coronation Street have took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express how they feel about the storyline. One user said: "Mason is not making life easy for the viewers either.
His character is absolutely revolting and it sounds like the viewers can’t wait to see the back of him. Please, writers, listen to us." Another added: "Had to turn off tonight. Uncomfortable viewing and unnecessary.
Awful television." While a third commented: "This is uncomfortable to watch but I guess that's the point. When are Liam and Dylan going to stand up to this bully Mason?" And another posted: "Can’t deny that the acting is great but the reality is scary - it’s a hard watch and makes you think that this happens everyday. Hard watch.
