ITV has made an announcement that will affect one of its longest-running soaps. Bosses at the broadcaster have revealed today (August 22) that the executive producer of Emmerdale will be stepping down next month, which will be a big change for the programme.
Emmerdale's exec, Jane Hudson, is leaving the role after leading the show for five years across nearly 1,000 episodes. Jane will leave her role at the popular ITV soap on September 22 after seeing through the episodes for this year’s 'Super Soap Week'.
During Jane's time as Emmerdale's executive producer, she has won a huge number of awards, including recent BAFTA and NTA awards, and has gathered huge critical acclaim for emotional storylines such as Marlon’s stroke and Faith’s breast cancer.

Jane also led the programme through the difficult years of Covid, keeping the show on-air when all other drama productions in the UK grounded to a halt. She has overseen some of the soap's huge rating weeks including; high wire action in a ravine, murder in a blazing maze and the killer storm week which marked Emmerdale’s 50th birthday.
Outside of the drama, Jane has championed many important ITV initiatives, including the innovative week where all the soaps in the UK came together to deliver on screen climate change messaging around COP26.
Speaking about her five years in the role, Jane said: “I’ve had a wonderful time at Emmerdale and feel very lucky to have spent the last five years working alongside such a hardworking and talented team.
