The actor, who was handed a tissue as he struggled to get on top of his feelings, went on to explain just what an impact being part of the Emmerdale cast for so long made to his life, as he opened up on meeting his wife Charley Webb, who played Debbie Dingle, on the show.
He added: “I met my wife on the show, we've had three kids, so not only has it given me 18 years of an amazing job, it's given me a family so to leave it, it's been a big part of my life and the most wonderful 18 years."
