The biggest fixture in Manchester this weekend is tomorrow's Etihad derby, but for the most unusual look no further than FC United's Broadhurst Park, which will host its first-ever competitive European fixture.

FC United joined the competition 10 months ago for its inaugural outing and the UEFA-backed tournament has quickly become a fan favourite. The Reds are one of eight entrants, all amateur clubs picked for being socially, culturally or historically distinct.

The Reds won 6-1 in Poland back in October - backed by around 120 FC United fans - and will now make history with their first competitive home game against European opposition. Next month comes a trip to Milan to face Brera in Italy's old national stadium and Neil Reynolds has his eyes on winning the group and qualifying for the finals event in Rimini in June.
But so far FC United's boss is still trying to get his head around the idea of leading a non-league team - playing in the Northern Premier League - into Europe.
“It’s been surreal. I remember in lockdown Adrian [Seddon, FC United chairman] calling me and asking ‘how would you fancy being involved in a European competition next season?’," Reynolds said.
“At the time it was the middle of lockdown and you couldn’t see anything past the end of your nose. We had a Zoom meeting with representatives from the clubs and the competition and then away we went, the idea became real and all of a sudden we were planning to go to Poland.
