A south Manchester school has been described as 'diabolical' and a 'uniformed prison or cult' by parents after children were sent home for wearing kickers-style shoes and knee high socks.
More than 60 children at Manchester Enterprise Academy (MEA) in Wythenshawe were forced to queue outside the school due to uniform issues on Thursday (September 7), parents said. A number were sent home, while others were reportedly placed 'in isolation', missing hours of school and leaving parents 'fuming'.
MEA told the Manchester Evening News the uniform policy reflects the high standards they believe are important for the children.
Parents have also claimed the toilets are locked during the day. It is claimed only one bathroom for each gender is opened at lunchtimes, with children 'begging' parents to ask the school for toilet passes.
However, MEA says there are always facilities available for students who need to access them.

"The school are an utter sham. I cannot wait to find a better place for my children to learn in," mum Charlotte Dowd told the M.EN. Charlotte has two children, aged 13 and 14, currently at the school, and says she wants to move them due to the school's policies.
She claims her son was kept in isolation yesterday, missing 'hours' of lessons, due to his footwear, which she described as 'plain black shoes'.
"For me, in the current cost of living situation, if I can pick up a pair of plain black Adidas trainers from sports direct at £25 then that's what I'll do for the simple fact they are more durable and longer lasting than a business style shoe especially for a boy playing football at break time," she said.
